Woodland hat – a giveaway!

Thank you, everyone, for entering the giveaway! The contest is now closed :). The winner has been notified by email.

(Skip to the bottom of this post if you want to enter to win this Woodland Hat!)

Lovely, isn’t it? But definitely not for me – it’s quite slouchy and within minutes engulfs my short, straight hair, and I look quite ridicu-lunk! BUT, if you have curly hair and you don’t want to mat it down, this will be perfect for you!

Pattern: Woodland Hat (Konglelua) by Ingvill Freland (Strikkekista). The interesting construction is, of course, what attracted me to this pattern. I do think that some bits are lost in translation in the actual writing, but the average knitter should be able to figure it out. I knit the pattern as written, except it’s a bit shorter than the specified 19 cm.

Yarn: Silver Optima, Raspberry Crème colorway, from Mocha’s Fiber Connection (I believe they no longer exist), 63% superwash merino, 20% silk, 15% nylon, and 2% silver. The hat used about 325 yards of this fingering weight yarn.

Needles: US 3 / 3.25 mm, circumference is about 22″, depth about 9.5″.

Thank you, everyone, for entering the giveaway! The contest is now closed :). The winner has been notified by email.

Now, for the fun part: I’m giving away this hat to one lucky reader! It was a pleasure to knit, but the style doesn’t work with my hair. To win, simply leave a comment on this post between now and Friday, October 30th, 9 p.m. EST, and I will select a winner at random. Make sure to use a functional email address! Full giveaway rules here.

I’m a curly girl, too. I have a hard time with hats, since they smash down my hair, but I’m going to have to look into this pattern.

  2. Love the color and love the pattern..

Love the color and love the pattern… Color reminds me of Raspberry Sorbet!

I love this pattern. Almost as much as that adorable acorn hat! ( that’s the one that made me follow you 😉 )

It’s really lovely and looks like a lot of fun to knit. It’s color would be perfect for my daughter, who frequently wears pink and who has thick, naturally curly hair.
Just want you to know that I love, love, love your Tretta Hat pattern. I changed it slightly and made a hat for my niece in her school colors and then made her a pair of mittens and used the leaf pattern up the back of the hands. It made an adorable set. Totally love your pattern. Thank you.

Being of the large headed, thick haired tribe, i think this hat would fit me perfectly, and I love the color. I am intrigued by the pattern.
Thanks for your generosity in offering the hat to a lucky reader.

What a perfect color! And the pattern does look fun to knit. I could see myself enjoying a hat like this (and I easily see my daughter trying to claim it as her own – she may be wearing a handknit hat today at school that was given to me as a gift but somehow became hers…).

what a lovely pattern! I’m going to hop on over to Ravelry right now to pick it up, I have a skein of yarn which was about to become a sockhead hat ready to go… This looks like more fun!

Beautiful hat! Love the color and the pattern. Is that done with short rows?

Gorgeous hat! I end up giving away most hats that I knit because they are not quite me–but I keep knitting them anyway:)

Ooh, I love the color & pattern! Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to win, especially since pink is a good color for me. Thanks for the opportunity.

I think the hat looks lovely on you. But I totally understand about a hat not workin with you hair. I’ve given away tons of hats for the same reason. Maybe this one would work for me – I’ve never tried that shape.

Beautiful color choice for this month and a hat that wouldn’t give me hat hair? That would be lovely.

I love this hat! I have super straight hair but I will bobby pin it on if I have to! Pick me!! Thank you for the great giveaway

I love the hat and I think you are correct abot the yarn maker, whom I believe is no longer making yarn, but painting instead. I have a few of their batts left, as well as some yarn made from their fiber. I would love to wear that hat this winter (I do have curly hair). I grew up wanting straight hair, thanks for giving me a reason to appreciate the curls.

This bad boy would work great with my curly hair……plus, I’m feeling a need for a little sparkle in my life. It’s a lovely hat!
